What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization is often misunderstood.  On the most basic level, search engine optimization is making your site look the best it can to the search engine.  Search engines don't have eyes, they have to look for facts.  A small example of "facts" they look for would include:

1. Keywords on your site
2. Labels for your pictures
3. Links from other sites direted toward your site (backlinks)
4. Freshness of content
5. Sheer quantity of content

There are hundreds of variables that affect the way search engines view your site.  To recap the most basic concept, SEO is the process we take to make your website show up higher than your competitor's site in the search engine rankings.

Flat Fee

The most common way to start the SEO process it to pick on keyword phrase that you want people to find you with.  For instance, a mortgage company in Kansas City would want people to find him/her if someone types in "Kansas City Lender" into Google.  People often want to start with this method because it gives them guaranteed results at a set price. 

For small SEO campaigns this is a great method.  Once you see results from the SEO, often times people switch to a more robust solution by choosing a month to month option.

Monthly Fee

The monthly option is much more effective when you want to target multiple keywords.  In the last example, if the same mortgage lender wanted to be high in Google for "Kansas City Lender,""Kansas City Mortgage," and "Lowest Mortgage Rate," they would do much better going with a monthly campaign.  Although the limits of the campaign are more vague, it is certainly your best option when it comes to targeting/marketing for multiple keywords for your website.

Rates

SEO fees can not be given without research.  If a dog trainer in a small town wanted to get to the top of Google's search results for their town it would be very cheap, but if a small insurance company wanted to get to the top of Google for the search phrase, "insurance company," it could take an enormous amount of money (if it were possible at all)!
